Thriving in the Gig Economy

Marion McGovern founded M Squared Consulting in 1988. It was one of the first gig economy talent intermediaries, long before the term “Gig Economy” existed. She is also the founder of Collabrus, a company focused on independent contractor compliance. And now, having failed at retirement, she is a full-fledged member of this independent workforce as well. In her new book, THRIVING IN THE GIG ECONOMY: How to Capitalize and Compete in the New World of Work (Career Press, July 2017), she shares all of this expertise with anyone thinking about going independent, anyone who just took the leap, or to anyone looking for reinforcement that they’re on the right track as they navigate through it.

McGovern has created an actionable guidebook in THRIVING IN THE GIG ECONOMY outlining ways to maneuver in this new world to create a path that optimizes success. She details:

In the last five years, the world of work has changed dramatically. Thanks to technology companies like Uber, TaskRabbit, and Instacart, the “Gig Economy” seems to constantly be in the news. While much focus is paid to the low end of skill spectrum; little attention is being paid to the more and more best in-class professionals choosing an independent path. New digital talent platforms are developing at a rapid clip with a wide variety of business models, many catering to very precise high-valued skill sets. Whichever group you fall into, THRIVING IN THE GIG ECONOMY, is a must-read.
